What is Metabolic Health?
Improving your health encompasses so much more than solely losing weight—it takes into account the whole person.
Metabolic health looks at the bigger picture—your diet, movement, stress levels, sleep and environment—and in some cases, medication, when lifestyle changes aren’t enough.
Achieving Optimal Metabolic Health Doesn’t Happen Overnight
Age, gender, hormones, genetics and pre-existing medical conditions can all influence your metabolic health. That’s why it’s important to focus on gradual change and tracking progress than hitting certain numbers.
Why is Metabolic Health Important?
Optimal metabolic health can reduce your risk for heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and other chronic diseases, and help you live a longer life. That’s why it’s crucial to take control of your metabolic health and seek treatment as early as possible if experiencing any of the following:
Impaired fasting glucose – blood sugar of 100 mg/dL or higher
BMI greater than 27
High blood pressure – 130/85 mmHg or higher
Elevated triglycerides – 150 mg/dL or higher
Low levels of good cholesterol (HDL) – less than 50 mg/DL
